Why are we still blogging?!
In the first article of the 2025 Blog Weeks, I address why I started blogging.

My blog history
Unlike the initiators of the blog weeks, I don't look back on years or even decades of blogging. Instead, it's been almost two handfuls of months – 8, to be exact. The initial impulse came from Maurice, with whom I quickly launched the blog while I was in China for a month (→ here's a technical insight). However, the way the blog came about doesn't explain why.
The Why
Initially, it was about creating a platform for the personal branding as "Mark Schmeiser". If someone in the network heard about me or recommended me, I wanted to stand for something – for the values I live by, my professional expertise, and a clear opinion on topics that are important to me. I think this can be summarized as "credibility."
A private blog offers me space to develop and the opportunity to send messages. I can express my private opinion on any topic and make explicit political statements, which feel inappropriate in my company blog. Of course, konzentrik represents values, and a shared company position and set of values exist. But that's precisely what it is: a shared position with which I would have to align. I don't want that limitation.
My first article and the search for the WHY
My first article was a reflection on the "why." However, it wasn't from the perspective of why I was writing the blog, but rather that the search for why is a central element of the blog's content in general. Looking back, I thought I would answer the article's "Why do I blog?" question. But my memory is wrong. So, back to the question: why?
Over the past few months, I've shown that I use my blog to share my knowledge and learning curve (e.g., in the form of book reviews) and take readers on my journeys of reflection on challenges and everyday situations. Writing helps me structure my thoughts and better understand myself and the topics.
I've also added a newsletter, which provides content support, sets a deadline (I always publish in the middle of the month), and puts positive pressure on me to create content. For this, I choose comprehensive topics I explore in an article series. A single post would be too short-sighted. This system supports my long-term goal of staying curious, exploring new topics, and constantly learning.
Conclusion
Like the bullet journal, the blog, newsletter, and writing in general, they support and challenge me. These positive impulses – to be mindful and to question myself – motivated me to start blogging and are still my motivation to continue.
As banal as it sounds, I blog because it helps me reflect.
