Welcome to my notes

My personal timeline with notes, bookmarks and short posts that are too short for a blog post.

Server Side Stories Episode 7

In this episode of Server Side Stories we shed light on a much-discussed topic: What exactly defines a "good" developer?

This link provides a list of valuable resources for development work (e.g., Polypane and ResponsiveApp), with some sidekicks for design (e.g., Ui Movement) and code content blogging (e.g., Carbon). It's worth checking out.

In the fast-paced world of digital advertising, Frequency Capping is pivotal in achieving the right balance between brand visibility and audience engagement. The RapidStream blog has the details!

Server Side Stories Episode 6

The first article of the year is about a question that comes up with every new project: What technology do we use? We talk about our decision-making process, what questions we ask ourselves, and give suggestions for your next project.

The calm days at the beginning of the year provide an excellent opportunity to raise awareness. The linked article explains that the 1.5-degree target is not merely a political agenda but a factual necessity. Let's hope for a peaceful and prosperous year in 2025!

The Thinkbox TV Masters course is an engaging and in-depth exploration that seamlessly integrates data analysis with psychological insights to optimize audience engagement. I highly recommend this comprehensive resource for anyone looking to elevate their understanding of TV advertising, regardless of their level of expertise.

For anyone who has not yet made a conscious decision about electronic patient records (ePA), I recommend reading Netzpolitk.org. And be careful—today is your last chance to disagree!

A friend of mine started his blog, "The Code Conduit." When we first met back in 2016, he was a CSS-only guy. Over the years, he has become a front-end developer with a passion for JavaScript and a focus on React. What a tremendous journey!

As part of my work at konzentrik, I report in a blog post what happened there in 2024. Feel free to take a look and read for yourself. For those of you who like to listen, there is also a link to our podcast.

This is our annual review. We talked about projects from 2024, difficulties we had, and goals we could achieve, both business and personal. It is a relaxed episode about our past and the coming year.

Who doesn't know it: DRY (Don't repeat yourself). Misused it leads to abstraction, which is more work than good. That's why I advocate WET (Write everything twice). Clarity emerges the third time after the code has been copied and applied twice. The article explains this comprehensively and in detail.

My early Christmas present arrived today—new bullet journals from Paperblanks, a hardcover, dotted pages, and a wonderful cover. I am happy!

The 2024 recap for RapidStream reports on the challenges of the last year and how we made the platform scalable, secure, and performant:

  • Optimized prefetching for personalized advertising content in high-reach FAST channels.
  • Strategies for sudden “traffic bursts” during commercial breaks of live events.

More information is in the linked blog post.

The LinkedIn post shows an exciting video about the “Habeck Effect” distributed via TikTok. Since I don't use the platform directly, I can only make the video accessible to you this way. The satirical article about Habeck's performance tries to convey facts. Will that work? Decide for yourself!

In the photo, you can see one of my new gimmicks for the RPG evenings. Does anyone know what that is between the books?

A topic good to remember: naming things is hard. Especially in software development. You will find a list of reasonable points in the bookmark. There are only two points I would handle slightly differently:

  • regarding point 7: the abbreviation ID is well-known and okay to use
  • regarding point 8: I like the usage of userList instead of users

In case you are looking for a new challenge as I do and you are aiming for AWS certificates, you should have a look at the article on LinkedIn from Jeff Kerwin. He posted a link to receive a 50% discount on AWS Solutions Architect, Developer, and Data Engineer associate certification. It is valid till 12. December 2024.

Maurice and I prepare photos as calendar week hero image templates, which are later adjusted via an image AI so that they fit the respective blog post. This happens using a light box in a highly professional setup 🤓

I started bullet journaling not too long ago. I celebrate the time I write and gain a lot of clarity as a result. I just don't always have it with me. However, there are many moments when I make interesting realizations or observations that are worth noting for future thought. This is exactly where Eric Pfohl comes in and recommends a second, small notebook. Take a look at it for yourself in the video.

This article lists small and incredibly important habits that every software developer should adopt. At least the one who takes his/her job and his/her passion seriously.
