The joy of the handwritten diary

In this short video Carl Pullein talks about his experience with journaling. I found his feedback on the digitalized version of journaling particularly exciting - and the tool plays a minor role in this.

I've also thought about making my notes digitally so that I can easily search them and have them with me at all times, and because everything is becoming more digital somehow. And what Carl says would certainly also be my insight: writing works great and is pleasant. BUT the diary is not present and tangible. A subsequent leafing through, occasional (or even targeted) browsing, or reading and reflection does not happen. And it's not about the technical possibility, but rather the result that it doesn't happen.

Another argument that I can understand very well is that with digital notes, the focus is on correct spelling and wording. And this jumping back interrupts the flow of writing and thoughts enormously - at least for me. And I agree with Carl - free, unbridled, unbridled writing is an essential part of journaling.

How do you feel about that?
