My personal timeline with notes, bookmarks and short posts that are too short for a blog post.
As part of my work at konzentrik, I report in a blog post what happened there in 2024. Feel free to take a look and read for yourself. For those of you who like to listen, there is also a link to our podcast.
This is our annual review. We talked about projects from 2024, difficulties we had, and goals we could achieve, both business and personal. It is a relaxed episode about our past and the coming year.
Who doesn't know it: DRY (Don't repeat yourself). Misused it leads to abstraction, which is more work than good. That's why I advocate WET (Write everything twice). Clarity emerges the third time after the code has been copied and applied twice. The article explains this comprehensively and in detail.
My early Christmas present arrived today—new bullet journals from Paperblanks, a hardcover, dotted pages, and a wonderful cover. I am happy!
The 2024 recap for RapidStream reports on the challenges of the last year and how we made the platform scalable, secure, and performant:
More information is in the linked blog post.
The LinkedIn post shows an exciting video about the “Habeck Effect” distributed via TikTok. Since I don't use the platform directly, I can only make the video accessible to you this way. The satirical article about Habeck's performance tries to convey facts. Will that work? Decide for yourself!
In the photo, you can see one of my new gimmicks for the RPG evenings. Does anyone know what that is between the books?
A topic good to remember: naming things is hard. Especially in software development. You will find a list of reasonable points in the bookmark. There are only two points I would handle slightly differently:

instead of users
In case you are looking for a new challenge as I do and you are aiming for AWS certificates, you should have a look at the article on LinkedIn from Jeff Kerwin. He posted a link to receive a 50% discount on AWS Solutions Architect, Developer, and Data Engineer associate certification. It is valid till 12. December 2024.
Maurice and I prepare photos as calendar week hero image templates, which are later adjusted via an image AI so that they fit the respective blog post. This happens using a light box in a highly professional setup 🤓
I started bullet journaling not too long ago. I celebrate the time I write and gain a lot of clarity as a result. I just don't always have it with me. However, there are many moments when I make interesting realizations or observations that are worth noting for future thought. This is exactly where Eric Pfohl comes in and recommends a second, small notebook. Take a look at it for yourself in the video.
This article lists small and incredibly important habits that every software developer should adopt. At least the one who takes his/her job and his/her passion seriously.

Today, the table tennis trial mobile (aka. Schnuppermobil) was with us north of Hamburg.
We spent 45 minutes each trying to get four classes at the Sachsenweg primary school excited about table tennis. Almost a hundred children were actively involved. It was a lot of fun.
The table tennis racket spiral staircase for quick distribution to the participants. In the background, you can see the tables with small exercises for shooting objects. That was a highlight.
The article contains various UUID alternatives, such as KSUID (K-Sortable Unique Identifier), ULID (Universally Unique Lexicographically Sortable Identifier), or NanoID. The list explains the advantages and disadvantages—a good source for cloud architects to read.
