Week after week: table tennis, push-ups, and more!

The resolution to organize regular tournaments is paying off. As a spontaneous idea, I started a 100-push-up challenge! I also attended the Hamburg Kirby Meetup with Maurice and followed exciting discussions.

Table tennis

We ended the last weekend with an NTSV internal Ditsch tournament, this time in the Burgunderweg hall. The lighting conditions there are not ideal, but they are significantly better than in the Bindfeldweg hall, which has complete glazing on the south side.

When the sun is shining, one side is disadvantaged. As usual, in a good atmosphere, we played six games over three hours and refreshed ourselves at the buffet.

During the week, I had to return to the new NTSV table tennis website. Several UI glitches in Safari should not have been left as they were. It is frightening how the Safari browser has developed into the modern IE6. I cannot adjust to live without a separate check of all resolutions.

At the end of the week, the match day was in our hall. Both the 1st men's team and my team - the 3rd men's team - are playing against Schnelsen. As a local derby, it is always an exciting match day that is often tough. A win for the 1st men's team is a must. For the 3rd men's team, it depends heavily on Schnelsen's line-up whether it will be an easy or difficult day. The latter would be desirable because it is more fun, and we want to earn our way to promotion.

Push-up challenge

On Monday, I read the article: I Started Doing 80 Push-ups Daily — This Is What Happened and thought to myself: why not! That was how my challenge began: 100 push-ups for 100 days.

On the one hand, I have always enjoyed doing push-ups and on the other hand, I wanted to see what would happen to my body over time. On day 1, everything was relaxed. However, the next day, I already had sore chest muscles. In addition, I had not reduced my regular exercise program. On Tuesday mornings, I go to the gym. I also continued running and practicing table tennis.

I could only keep up the challenge on the following days by doing push-ups in blocks of 10 throughout the day. To keep track, I kept a tally in my bullet journal. Amazingly, I did ten push-ups in a row, even though the first three were always a massive effort - the sore muscles rebelled. With the Can't hurt me reading in the back of my mind, I pushed through.

Kirby Meetup

Taking the Hamburg Kirby Meetup as an opportunity, Maurice and I met for a dinner and networking evening. We enjoyed a delicious pizza at a delightful Italian restaurant in Hafencity. Afterward, we went to the meetup, and lo and behold - it was held in the same building a befriended agency resides: at this point, greetings to the guys and girls from Qubidu.

The meetup itself was well attended, with 20 people. A quarter of them were women - I would not have expected that at a developer-heavy meeting—a delightful surprise. One of the main topics was not so much about Kirby but a discussion about Tailwind. The arguments presented and the pros and cons corresponded almost precisely with what Maurice and I recorded for an episode of our podcast earlier this month. It will be released on March 6th.

The second topic was a dialogue between the speakers and the audience, leading to an exchange about multi-language in Kirby. This was exciting because the participants' different professional backgrounds defined different requirements. In addition to those who didn't need it, there was also the perspective of a corporate side that needed languages and country differentiation. In the end, everything can be represented in Kirby. That's good to know.
