Blogging - More than text

The Blog Weeks 2025 are entering their next round. I'm devoting myself to whether blogs are just a collection of texts or whether there's more to them—upon closer inspection, I've discovered some interesting details.

Of course, more than text

The obvious answer is simple and doesn't reveal its true potential: A blog contains not only text but also images or audio. It's possible to embed videos, for example, from YouTube. This would put me on thin ice in terms of data protection, which is why I'm choosing a different approach: linking.

Among other things, links

In their texts on the current topic, Benedikt Müller and Robert Lender also addressed this aspect. In blogs, we have the opportunity to link to other content, incorporate recommendations and redirects, and thus provide readers with access to further information, allowing them to delve deeper if they're interested, or to cite sources directly.

Anyone can blog

Blogs allow anyone to write. To capture and share insights, experiences, and thoughts in words or images. On any topic. In any way that suits them. Without censorship. Accessible to everyone. This enables anyone to access any new topic with internet connectivity.

Digital texts open up possibilities

Blogs are digital by nature. This opens up many possibilities. With the diverse AI tools, a text can be translated or analysed in a fraction of a second, allowing you to then interact with the text. Be it asking for explanations, summaries, or the like. I can have the text read aloud to me or link it to multiple sources. Tools like Notebook LM go a step further and allow you to create a podcast from the content – this is particularly exciting for people who learn auditory.

Green Thought

As I was reading other blogs on this topic, a small but fascinating sentence in Frank König's post caught my eye: Blogs are zero waste. Particularly important in our times and a crucial difference from traditional printed text.

Conclusion

I think blogging is so much more than just text. Especially compared to printed texts written by journalists. I'm glad this form of publication exists. I've often found inspiration in articles. The potential is enormous. With that in mind, many thanks to the initiators of Blog Weeks 2025
