Weekly review cw 49
This week, I prepared a lot of new content, optimized our cross-posting platform Sociabli, and published the fourth episode of Server Side Stories.
Content Creation
This week, the focus was on content creation. Together with my colleague Maurice, I did the preparatory work for the content of our channels. In the case of the podcast, we look at a collection of topics in our Notion Board - these are just headings or keywords - and pick out the topics that we find exciting at the moment. With a discussion lasting around 20 minutes per topic, we fill the entry with life by recording our thoughts and core statements. In a further step, the script for the new episode is developed. We follow a similar approach for our blog entries. In this way, we ensure that the posts take more than one perspective into account and look at aspects from a variety of perspectives.
Hosting and deployments of other types
As part of a new project, we have to store sensitive patient data in a GDPR-compliant manner. For this we are working with an unknown, small host from Brandenburg. The options for hosting and later, partially automated deployments are not as obvious as is the case with well-known hosters (e.g. AWS, Heroku, etc.). After we clarified the framework conditions, we wanted to recreate the scenario for our development environment.
For this, we chose Hetzner - we came across the provider by chance (or were we influenced by good marketing?). Setting up servers, volumes, and networks was very pleasant and easy in a superbly designed UI. The cost structure is transparent, and the UI provides feedback at all times about what is happening and what the status is. Based on the positive impressions, I can highly recommend using Hetzner as a host.
Sociabli
The Bluesky vortex helps the cross-posting tool Sociabli gain its first customers. And with third-party use, unexpected things happen and there is valuable user feedback. To appreciate the support of new users, I implemented optimizations this week. The focus is on better user guidance when filling out the forms, so that errors are identified early and users know more precisely what needs to be corrected. This makes it even easier to connect your blog to Medium and synchronize your Mastodon account with Bluesky.
Server Side Stories
In the fourth episode of Server-Side-Stories, I discuss the development and challenges of agile working methods with Maurice. We look at the effects of agile principles on modern working methods and report on our experiences over the last 15 years.
